Super early Carolina Panthers fantasy football outlook

We're getting close to the time of year when Fantasy Football leagues are getting ready to start preparations for their upcoming drafts. And premium draft sites like ESPN and Yahoo Sports are already doing live drafts for actual 2022-2023 fantasy teams. So, let's take a look at where the Panthers players are being projected and drafted in the early stages of the fantasy season. This will give a good look at how fantasy football players perceive the Panthers season going and how they view the Panthers personnel.

Yahoo OT # means Yahoo only lists that many players at a position, and they are O-utside T-op #

RB: It's really a testament to how good Christian McCaffrey is to see him still having such a high ADP after missing so many games the last two years. He's just that good. He can literally carry a fantasy team when he's healthy for a full year. The fantasy community is viewing Chuba Hubbard as the primary backup, should McCaffrey get hurt again, and he's being drafted ahead of D'Onta Foreman, but I think they Panthers will rely on Foreman over Hubbard when all is said and done.

WR: DJ Moore is a good NFL receiver, and his ADP doesn't reflect how good he really is. The fantasy community is penalizing him due to the QB situation on the team. They still think he'll produce but at a WR2/WR3 level instead of WR1 if he had an elite or above average QB. Robbie Anderson, big heavy sigh. I'm not a Robbie fan, and neither is the fantasy community. Yeah, some is the QB situation, but Anderson struggles to win in the short and intermediate area, runs sloppy routes, and the worst thing about all this, he's the clear #2 receiver for the Panthers this year. No other Panthers WR are even being drafted.

TE: Neither Panthers TE is being drafted with any frequency, both are being drafted in less than 1% of all leagues. Ben McAdoo historically has used the TE alot in his offenses. He won't use many two TE sets, but likes to use them in the shallow to intermediate areas in the middle of the field. He supposedly liked Ian Thomas and rallied for his extension, so it will be worth keeping an eye on usage between the two, because they could be good adds in the first few weeks as a streamer for TE's on byes or injury.

QB: If you noticed, Matt Corral is already being drafted more and earlier than Sam Darnold. In a 10 or 12 team league, there really are much better options and neither should be drafted. And although Darnold has been dealt the shittiest situation of any QB in the last 5 years, I think he has a chance to shine in McAoo's system and his new vastly upgraded O Line. As fans, we'll all be watching the QB position intently, and we should be as fantasy players as well. Darnold has a chance to put up sneaky good numbers.... or we could see Corral by Week 6, 7, 8.

If ADP doesn't do it for you, here's the players being drafted around the Panthers players, so you'll get an idea of who is being drafted near your Panthers.

Christian McCaffrey:

ESPN: Jonathon Taylor, Austin Eckler, CMC, Derrick Henry, Najee Harris

Yahoo: Dalvin Cook, Derrick Henry, CMC, Najee Harris, Joe Mixon

DJ Moore:

ESPN: AJ Brown, Jaylon Waddle, DJM, Michael Pittman, DK Metcalf

Yahoo: Jaylon Waddle, Dionte Johnson, DJM, DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin

Robby Anderson:

ESPN: Marvin Jones, Jamison Crowder, RA, Rondale Moore, Van Jefferson

Final Thoughts: It's really disheartening to see that the Carolina Panthers only have two skill position players that are even being drafted in 80% of all 10 team fantasy leagues. Some teams have 7, most have 5 and almost all have 4, and the Panthers only have 2. A lot of work to be done on this roster to make the team playoff worthy.
