The Carolina Panthers have extended Robby Anderson’s contract by two years, locking up the wide receiver’s services through the 2023 season. The new deal provides him with an additional $29.5M, $20.5M of which is guaranteed.

Anderson posted 95 receptions for 1096 yards and three touchdowns for the Panthers last year as, ostensibly, their number two receiver. This was in his first year with a new team, that new team’s first year with a new coaching staff, and all during a global pandemic that forced team activities, such as practice, to occur in unprecedented circumstances and ways. In short, Anderson was a star when every excuse not to be existed.

Added to that is the fact that the Panthers have bet big for the next two years on a quarterback in Sam Darnold who has two things in Charlotte right now: a lot of questions and experience throwing footballs to Anderson. This extension was the right move for the Panthers and made at a great time for Anderson.

The Carolina Panthers have long been a team in search of a second or third wide receiver to provide consistency at the skill positions. With both DJ Moore and Anderson now signed through 2023, that search is no longer a part of the team’s identity.
