There are only 33 days until the Panthers kick off the 2021 season, so that means today’s roster countdown piece is dedicated to the player currently wearing No. 33 for the Panthers — running back Spencer Brown.
The Panthers signed Brown (6-0, 220) as an undrafted free agent from UAB following the 2021 NFL Draft.
Here’s a brief summary of Brown’s college career, courtesy of the team’s website:
Played four seasons at UAB (2017-20) where he set program records for career rushing yards (4,011), rushing touchdowns (41) and 100-yard rushing games (19). Finished 11th in Conference USA history in career rushing yards. Two-time Conference USA Championship Game MVP. In 2020, earned All-Conference USA second team honors with 111.1 rushing yards per game. Posted career highs as a freshman when he earned Freshman All-America honors and had 1,329 rushing yards with 10 touchdowns.
Brown will likely be competing for a depth spot on the 53-man roster with running backs Rodney Smith, Trenton Cannon, Darius Clark and Mikey Daniel. His chances are low, but his fate largely depends on whether or not he’s willing and able to contribute on special teams. He could also be a candidate for the practice squad if he shows enough promise in the preseason.
