Panthers 2021 season opener countdown: 73 days to go

We’re counting down the days until the Panthers kick off the 2021 season.

We’re only 73 days away from the start of the Panthers’ 2021 season, so today we’re talking about No. 73 on the roster — offensive tackle Martez Ivey.

Ivey was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Patriots in 2019 and played for them during training camp before being waived roster cuts. In 2020, he spent time with the Tampa Bay Vipers in the XFL before the league folded (again) and he was signed as a free agent by the Panthers in April 2021.

He played college football at Florida, and according to his bio on the team’s website he was pretty good for the Gators.

Played four seasons with Florida (2015-18), playing in 49 career games. Earned Second Team All-SEC honors in 2018, 2017 and 2016 seasons. Part of an offensive line that allowed just 18 sacks in 2018, ranking 20th in the country.

The 25-year-old Ivey will have to compete for a spot on the depth chart with the likes of Trent Scott, Greg Little and Cameron Erving, so his chances of making the team are slim. However, he could be a candidate for the practice squad if he’s unable to land on the final 53-man roster when training camp ends.

Let’s hear from you, Panthers fans. Do you think Ivey has a chance to make the 53-man roster? Why or why not? Share your thoughts with us!
