We’re 90 days away from the Carolina Panthers 2021 season opener, so that means today’s countdown piece is devoted to No. 90 on the roster — defensive tackle DaQuan Jones.
The Panthers signed Jones to a one-year deal in April after he spent the first seven years of his career with the Tennessee Titans. After being drafted by the Titans in the fourth round (No. 112 overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft, Jones has appeared in 99 games over seven years and tallied 235 tackles (136 solo) and 9 sacks. Jones played college football at Penn State.
After parting ways with Kawann Short (32) and Zach Kerr (30) earlier this offseason, the Panthers needed to add some quality veteran depth to their defensive interior, so signing the 29-year-old Jones to a one-year deal makes sense*. Jones is expected to be a key contributor in the defensive tackle rotation lined up next to Derrick Brown while being a veteran mentor to the younger players around him.

*- I get the decision to part ways with Short, but I’m still baffled that they moved on from Kerr. He was a solid depth piece at a reasonable price, if you ask me.
