The Panthers entered Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft with two picks — one in each round tonight — and traded down multiple times, turning those two picks into three quality players and an extra pick tomorrow. Oh, and they also managed to recoup the fourth round pick they traded to the Jets for Sam Darnold in the process.
My colleague MickSmiley is over the moon right now because the Panthers finally took the Trade Down Island approach to the draft, and while I normally don’t enjoy seeing the team trade down multiple times, I was fully on board with the way Scott Fitterer and Matt Rhule handled the draft today. This Panthers team is full of holes, and the front office made it a mission to address that problem by stocking up on draft picks and using those picks to maneuver up and down the board to get the guys they valued the most.
I absolutely love the three players we picked today. I think Terrace Marshall is a stud red zone threat who will be what we all hoped Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess could have been. Brady Christensen is an athletic tackle prospect who kept Zach Wilson upright while he played his way to being the No. 2 overall pick. Tommy Tremble is a bad ass dude who just likes to hit people. Oh, and he’s got unlimited potential as a pass catching tight end, despite not having a lot of opportunities in the pass game while at Notre Dame.
The Panthers still have five picks tomorrow unless they decide to move around on the board again like they did today, and I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t wait to see what they do tomorrow. I have a feeling they’re going to continue building out this roster and turn us back into the contender we desperately want to be. I don’t know about anyone else, but the thought of that has me pretty excited right now.
