The Panthers needed some beef up front and they got it.

Update: The deal is officially a 1-year, $4.05 million contract that is fully guaranteed.

With the availability of former Browns defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, many Panthers fans got the itch to add some mass between the dynamic duo of Brian Burns and Haason Reddick. The team made a similar and likely more cost-effective move by adding former Titans defensive tackle DaQuan Jones. While nothing is official yet, Ian Rappaport is reporting a one year deal is expected.

Before this move, the Panthers only had four players on their roster officially listed at defensive tackle, only two of which most fans have actually heard of (Derrick Brown and Bravvion Roy). By potentially adding the 29-year-old Jones, the team has boosted its run defense. Jones is not known as a pocket collapsing type of player, rather his money is made in stuffing the middle. Lining him up next to Derrick Brown will make inside runs darn near impossible for opposing offenses. It will also allow Brown to garner more one-on-one situations with Jones eating up blockers. Those two players in front of Denzel Perryman at linebacker should make for tough sledding for opposing running backs.

What do you think of this (potential) signing, Panthers fans? Sound off in the comments!
