Carolina Panthers expected to sign ILB Denzel Perryman to two year contract

Perryman is a run stuffing and hard hitting inside linebacker that the Panthers will make use of immediately.

The Carolina Panthers have made a much needed move to fill a position of desperate need at middle linebacker and significantly improve their run defense by signing Denzel Perryman formerly of the Los Angeles Chargers, per reports.

The exact terms of the deal are not yet known, but we do know it will be a two year contract. We will update with the exact terms once they are known.

Perryman is an excellent run defender, one of the best in the league actually. While only mediocre in coverage, he has a reputation as being one of the hardest hitting players in football. He does have a significant injury history, which is probably the reason for just a two year deal, but ultimately this is a risk worth taking. The Panthers run defense was putrid at gap responsibility last season, as Tahir Whitehead failed to live up to expectations, and a young defensive line started to get their feet wet. He should immediately start at middle linebacker for the team.
