The Carolina Panthers did some more roster reshuffling ahead of their Week 3 clash with the Los Angeles Chargers. This time, they cut cornerback Trumaine Johnson from the practice squad and replaced him with kicker Kai Forbath.

If this story sounds like something you’ve heard before, it’s probably because the Panthers both players have been on and off the roster within just a few days. They were signed to the practice squad together six days ago before Forbath was released again just two days later.
This probably isn’t the end of the saga between these two players. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Panthers sign Forbath every Friday and then release him the following Monday for the duration of the season. He’s a kicker that doesn’t necessarily need time with the team to be ready to go on Sundays. The Panthers can then use his roster spot on another positional player for practice during the week.
