The Panthers are eight point underdogs to the Buccaneers

While 51 percent think the Panthers will cover the eight points, zero percent think they will win.

The Week 2 Panthers at Buccaneers spread has narrowed to eight points.

I’m off to a bad start with my against-the-spread game predictions. The Panthers 34-30 loss to the Raiders failed to cover 3.5 points and I badly missed on picking the under at 47. I guess it was wishful thinking on my part. I am amazed at how good the odds makers are at their job, which brings me to Week 2.

Week 2 Picks - Panthers at Buccaneers

Bovada is giving the Panthers eight points which is down half a point from earlier in the week.

Eight points is a lot, yet my gut reaction is the Panthers will not cover it. Yet if the spread is narrowing it means the money has tilted towards the Panthers. A quick look at Betting Pros picks and it is a virtual tie or slight edge to Panthers but the spread is at 8.5 points.

Rather than going with my inner pessimist and picking the Bucs to cover the spread of eight, I’m going with the Panthers +8 baby!

Game Prediction: Buccaneers 33 Panthers 27

I’m wondering if the Bucs have any team chemistry yet. Bringing teammates together doesn’t seem like a trait Brady possesses. It’s actually more likely things get awkward and how the players respond to that will make the difference. Maybe we see a classic Brady scream-fest should the Panthers get out to an early lead? Or am I getting too dystopian?

I will take the over 48 points obviously.

The Bucs have a tough defense and it will cause the Panthers offense problems, so they would be very lucky to put up 30 again this week.

Losing wide receiver Chris Godwin for the game is a big blow to the Bucs offense. They are stacked at tight end with Rob Gronkowski and OJ Howard to go along with Mike Evans so Godwin won’t be missed. I worry our linebackers are going to have a rough game. Rookie safety Jeremy Chinn will need to have a big day to mitigate the weakness at linebacker in coverage.

So what is your prediction for the game?

Will the Panthers cover the eight point spread against the Bucs?

Prediction Machine’s Pick of the Week

They like an Eagles upset at home...seems like a good pick. The Eagles usually play better at home, that is true.
