Late Sunday night, I read a tweet I only imagined in the wildest of my dreams.
Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has reached agreement on a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the New England Patriots, league sources tell @mortreport and me.

Newton now will step into the mix to try to help replace former Patriots’ QB Tom Brady.
Yup, you read that right. Cam Newton is a Patriot. Wow.
Cam Newton’s 2020 offseason has been one of the most interesting we’ve ever seen for a former NFL MVP. After being suddenly released by the Panthers following word that they decided to move on to former Saints backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, we heard very little about what interest he was garnering on the open market. Despite his foot injury in 2019 being unrelated to his history of shoulder issues, Cam simply hadn’t shown that he could stay healthy for a full season stretch since 2017.
Now, he gets a shot to step in the massive shoes left open by Tom Brady’s departure to the Buccaneers this offseason. So we will get to see a super motivated Cam Newton with something to prove to the NFL.
Still trying to figure out how to process it, folks.
