Welcome home, folks. All your long weeks of struggling with this enigma are almost over. Next week we’ll reveal the as-yet uncracked secret of our double blind study and release you into the offseason with both knowledge and peace of mind. How’s that for a football blog?
For those of you just joining us, 16 weeks into this series, this is the chronicle of a most scientific endeavor. People quickly judge quarterbacks by their stats and quarterbacks who change teams mid career rarely go on to surpass their accomplishments with their original teams. This experiment is blindly comparing the statistical successes of two quarterbacks who are currently making a go of being the face of a second franchise. Those statistics, thus far, are as follows:
Quarterback A completed 5/10 passes, or 50% percent, for 34 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions. They also took two sacks for a loss of 20 yards while rushing for 24 yards and one touchdown on four carries. They lost their game.
Overall, Quarterback A has completed 221/338 passes, or 65.4 percent, for 2,415 yards, five touchdowns, and ten interceptions, while taking 28 sacks for a loss of 191 yards. They have rushed 126 times for 415 yards and 12 touchdowns and one lost fumble. That makes 17 total touchdowns and 11 turnovers in 14 games on the season. They are 6-8 in games started in 2020.
Quarterback B completed 19/28 passes, or 67.8 percent, for 197 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. They also took four sacks for a loss of 30 yards while rushing for seven yards and no touchdowns on six carries. They won their game.
Overall, Quarterback B has completed 327/469 passes, or 69.7 percent, for 3,557 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, while taking 30 sacks for a loss of 195 yards. They have rushed 50 times for 272 yards, and five touchdowns. That makes 19 total touchdowns and nine turnovers in 14 games on the season. They are 4-10 in games started in 2020.
And now the moment you have been waiting for: your weekly hint! Both quarterbacks have, at one point in their careers, played for the same franchise. They were both under contract by that franchise for a single day. Look at that, two hints for the price of one. And here’s a bonus third: It’s not Tom Brady.
