Panthers activate Reggie Bonnafon and Chris Orr for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals

The Panthers give themselves injury insurance with the NFL’s new practice squad rule.

The Carolina Panthers have activated two players from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals—running back Reggie Bonnafon and linebacker Chris Orr.

The Panthers used this same method to activate Bonnafon for last week’s game against the Chargers, in which he carried the ball two times for 16 yards. The NFL’s special roster rules this season allow individual players to be activated from the practice squad twice. If a team wants to use that player on the active roster after that, they have to sign him to the active roster.

This is the first time Chirs Orr has been activated off the practice squad. He provides insurance for Tahir Whitehead, who just popped up on the injury report with a thigh injury. Orr signed with the Panthers as a free agent after the 2020 draft. Sunday will be his NFL debut, provided he finds his way onto the field.
