Apple has battled injuries throughout the offseason and was placed on injured reserve prior to the team’s Week 1 game against the Raiders.
Apple (ankle/foot) goes on IR after battling through injuries for a significant part of training camp. Aside from the ankle and foot, Apple has also dealt with a hamstring injury. Apple will be eligible to re-join the active roster after three weeks if Carolina chooses to make that designation.
Apple will give the Panthers some needed depth in the secondary, especially with Donte Jackson battling turf toe. I don’t know how much playing time Apple would get tomorrow against the Cardinals since he hasn’t seen any action after signing a 1-year, $3 million deal with the Panthers in May, but it’s nice to have a warm body with experience available should the need for one arise during Sunday’s game.
To make room for Apple on the 53-man roster, the Panthers are expected to waive defensive end Shareef Miller according to a report from Tom Pelissero.
To make room for Eli Apple, the #Panthers are waiving DE Shareef Miller, per source. Likely re-signs on Carolina’s practice squad if he clears.
