The Panthers have made a roster move today by releasing veteran wide receiver Seth Roberts. Roberts had only four catches for 31 yards in for Carolina this season despite playing in all seven of the team’s games.
The Panthers have released wide receiver Seth Roberts. He was a potential trade candidate prior to the season. WR depth is not ideal.

Roberts played in all seven of Carolina’s games this season, making four receptions for 31 yards. He was used in a reserve role on offense, playing a season-high 41 percent of snaps in Sunday’s loss to New Orleans. But Roberts had not been targeted since the Week 4 victory over the Cardinals.
According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the Panthers tried to trade Roberts before making the decision to release him. I have to applaud them for their effort, but I have to imagine that a wide receiver with only four catches for 31 yards and zero touchdowns isn’t exactly in high demand at the moment. There are plenty of free agents you can pick up for next to nothing who can provide that much production, so the Panthers shouldn’t have really expected to get anything in return.
Releasing Roberts leaves the Panthers with just five receivers on the active roster: Robby Anderson, DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel, Pharoh Cooper and Brandon Zylstra.
The Panthers also released practice squad cornerback Josh Hawkins after signing him last week.
Practice squad CB Josh Hawkins has also been released. He was signed last week.
