Panthers at Cardinals game day inactives: Cam Newton, Kawann Short out for Panthers; Vernon Butler active for first time

New, comments

The Panthers will be without several key players today in Arizona.

The Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals have released the names of the players who will not suit up for today’s game, and the Panthers have a few notable names on their list.

As expected, quarterback Cam Newton (foot) will not play today. Kyle Allen will start in his place. Defensive tackle Kawann Short (shoulder) will also have the day off, and Vernon Butler will get his first action this year while Short rests. Edge rusher Bruce Irvin is still out with a hamstring injury and has missed all three games so far this season. Safety Rashaan Gaulden (groin) is also out again today.

One notable fact for the Cardinals is there are seven (yes, seven) active wide receivers for them today. Expect to see a lot of four-wide sets when the Cardinals have the ball. That should be fun to watch, right?

Here are the inactives lists for both teams.
