Panthers vs Buccaneers game day inactives: Vernon Butler inactive for second straight game

The former first round pick is on the inactive list as the Panthers face the Buccaneers in Week 2.

The Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have revealed the players who won’t suit up for tonight’s action on Thursday Night Football.

Here are the inactives for tonight:

Panthers inactives

  • DT Vernon Butler
  • OT Greg Little
  • DE Bruce Irvin (hamstring)
  • DB Rashaan Gaulden (groin)
  • QB Will Grier
  • WR Brandon Zylstra
  • OL Brandon Greene

Buccaneers inactives

  • QB Blaine Gabbert
  • OT Josh Wells
  • S Andrew Adams
  • WR Scotty Miller
  • G Zack Bailey
  • TE Tanner Hudson
  • OLB Demone Harris

The Panthers will have to hope that their pass rush can be effective again tonight with Bruce Irvin being out with a hamstring injury that caused him to miss the season opener. Brian Burns should be expected to be a factor tonight, and hopefully some of those ‘near misses’ he had against Rams quarterback Jared Goff will turn into sacks (or turnovers) against Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston.

A few other miscellaneous notes: Vernon Butler is inactive again. That’s not good for him. Also, rookie linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk will be active for the first time with Rashaan Gaulden out. Greg Little is out of the concussion protocol but won’t play tonight, probably because of the short week. I’d expect him to be ready for next week’s game against the Cardinals.
