This game has to be personal for Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. After all, it’s a prime time Thursday Night Football game against his former team. He has the chance to absolutely humiliate the team that released him and replaced him with Ndamukong Suh. Also, let’s not forget that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers promptly gave McCoy’s old number to Suh, which also potentially sent a message to McCoy.
There may be more at stake for McCoy personally than most people realize. The Bucs were the team that McCoy grew with throughout the beginning and prime years of his career. He may try to keep it cordial for the media, but tonight’s game will allow him to fully release his frustration against his former team. It would not be surprising to see him have a monster game. It seems realistic to visualize McCoy salivating at the thought of sacking Jameis Winston in front of millions of eyes.
The Panthers are also fresh off of a disappointing 30-27 loss against the Los Angeles Rams, so there’s some extra motivation for McCoy to feed off of. This team can’t afford to fall into a 0-2 hole. As a veteran who has been a part of many losing seasons in Tampa, it’s entirely possible for McCoy to feel extremely driven by the loss. With this being a prime time game against a very beatable team, it’s the perfect opportunity for McCoy to show flashes of his dominant prime.
Let’s see what what you all think:
Will McCoy have a great (better than average) game tonight?
