Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton’s walking boot is already off

Cam’s mid-foot sprain is progressing as rapidly as the team had hoped, by all accounts.

The rumors out of Bank of America Stadium about Cam Newton possibly practicing by Monday seem to be well founded. Head coach Ron Rivera shared that Newton is already out of the walking boot that he was seen with when exiting the stadium following Thursday night’s preseason loss to the New England Patriots.

Newton sustained a mid-foot sprain while being sacked for the second time in the first quarter of that game. The injury has been described in optimistic terms at every turn since. Only time will tell if Newton’s recovery and the optimism about his recovery have much in common, but the objective signs so far are as positive as what we’ve been hearing from the team. While the determination has still not been made, or at least been made public, that Newton will practice tomorrow it does seem safe to assume that he will be ready for the Panthers season opener against the Los Angeles Rams on September 8th.
