The Carolina Panthers have made a handful of roster moves in the wake of the Tre Boston signing. These moves are mostly adjusting to the needs of their team during training camp and will have little bearing on the regular season. But for a moment let’s just get hype that they signed a kicker.
Panthers signed G Rishard Cook, K Joey Slye.

Waived/injured G Dorian Johnson, LB Brandon Chubb.
Team thought Graham Gano was taking too many kicks. Slye will help with the workload.
Slye has a thunderous leg and comes from a tradition of Special Teams excellence, being just one year removed from his college career at Virginia Tech, Unfortunately, accuracy was never his hallmark at school even though he was semifinalist two years in a row for the Lou Groza Award (the highest honor for collegiate kickers).
The Panthers are clearly just trying to give Gano’s legs a rest on practice kicks. If they wouldn’t keep Harrison Butker after a dead heat then they won’t be looking for competition in a what is effectively a camp leg — even if it is there to be seen. That leaves Panthers fans everywhere on the edge of their seats for this season with the hope that his three missed extra points from 2018 were a fluke in what has been an otherwise stable career in Carolina.
