Collins (6-foot-3, 290 lbs) was a three-year starter at left guard and center for Appalachian State but went undrafted in 2017. He signed as a UDFA with the Jaguars and also spent time with the Rams during training camp in 2017, but was cut before the season started. He was picked up by the Steelers in the summer of 2018 but was placed on injured reserve in August. He has never appeared in an NFL game but was recently with the Atlanta Legends in the AAF until the league folded a few days ago.
Collins will compete with Tyler Larsen and Greg Van Roten during offseason workouts — and possibly training camp — to be Matt Paradis’ backup center on the Panthers’ 53-man roster this season. There’s also a possibility that the Panthers want to move him to guard to provide more depth there as well.
