Carolina Panthers select Terry Godwin with the No. 237 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft

The Carolina Panthers have selected Terry Godwin at No. 237 overall.

The Carolina Panthers have selected former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Terry Godwin with the No. 237 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

This is basically a free pick since it’s the selection that Carolina received when they traded down from the No. 187 pick in the sixth round. With that being said, Godwin is a good route runner and could sneak onto the 53-man roster as a depth option at wide receiver. The 5-foot-11, 184 lbs receiver isn’t the fastest guy on the field, but he’s described by scouts as having ‘soft hands and good field awareness’.

Here’s what Lance Zierlein said about Godwin in his draft profile:

Tall, thin slot receiver with soft hands, good field awareness and fluid routes. The word “natural” is accurate in describing Godwin’s game, but short arms and lack of play strength are hurdles he will have to clear. If he can improve his press-release, he has a chance to become more than a backup with inside or outside value.

With a solid training camp there’s a chance we see more of Godwin this season, but the most likely landing spot for him in 2019 is the Panthers’ practice squad for a year (or two) of seasoning before he makes the jump to the main roster. Considering he’s a seventh round pick, there’s not much more you can ask for or expect.
