Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera confirmed during his press conference today that Kyle Allen will remain the Panthers starter against the Tennessee Titans in Week 9.

Allen had a rough outing against the San Francisco 49ers and their league-best defense in Week 8. It marked his first loss and and his first three interceptions as a pro. He also notched his first consecutive game without a fumble and that’s not nothing.

Rivera stood by Allen in spite of his struggles last Sunday. He said there was no consideration of putting third string rookie quarterback Will Grier in the game. Similarly, there was no consideration of benching Allen, who is now 4-1 on the season, going forward.

Fans were hoping that Cam Newton would make his return shortly after the Bye Week. Despite his first time traveling with the team after his injury and his appearance on the field during warm ups where he was throwing passes, Newton does not appear to be ready to play a game just yet. Week 10’s flexed game against the Green Bay Packers will now mark the earliest possible return for Newton.
