The Carolina Panthers have released their first injury report after their week off and it contains mostly good news for a previously very injured team. Donte Jackson (groin) and Trai Turner (ankle) are two big starters the team had missed for several games. Jackson is expected to be back at full speed this week, while Turner is still being mentioned as day to day. That could mean he is back on Sunday or back next week. Fortunately, nobody is trying to rush the big man with the hurt ankle.
Break out rookie Brian Burns (wrist) is making progress after undergoing surgery on his injured rest during the Bye Week. He practiced yesterday with a cast on. Today, the cast was reduced to a brace. He is not expected to miss any further time due to this injury.
Denis Daley (groin) is set to be the team’s left tackle again while Greg Little (concussion) is still in the concussion protocol. Daley himself was given a day off while dealing with a previously sustained groin injury, but is still expected to be available for Sunday’s game.
The big news, of course, is that there is still no concrete news on Cam Newton. He was back at practice yesterday and today for the first time since the Thursday Night Football loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is running and doing very specific drills with trainers on the side. It is unclear if he has been throwing at all at practice. Rivera declared Kyle Allen the starter in San Francisco yesterday. We’ll see how Newton progresses this week in advance of the team’s home game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 9.
