The Carolina Panthers have placed wide receiver Chris Hogan on injured reserve with a knee injury that he sustained during the Week 4 game with the Houston Texans.

Hogan was signed this offseason to a $1.45 million contract but has struggled to find opportunities on the field so far. He has only recorded three catches for 24 yards. That had him pegged firmly behind Jarius Wright, in his second year with the Panthers, on the wide receiver depth chart.

Per the Panthers.com report, the team believes that his injury isn’t truly season ending and that he could be a candidate to return from injured reserve after eight weeks. The ability to return from the injured reserve list was added to the league in 2017 and requires a player, who no longer has to be specifically designated for their return, to spend eight weeks on the list before they can be eligible to participate in team activities.

The Panthers have claimed offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch off waivers to fill the roster spot. Benenoch was a 2016 draft pick for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who has also spent some time with the New England Patriots.
