Robinson was drafted in the seventh round (No. 240 overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Lions and has spent most of his four year career on the injured list. He’s strictly a depth option for the Panthers at this point, but considering the amount of injuries the Panthers have suffered on their offensive line so far this preseason it won’t be long before Robinson is called to action for Carolina.
Here’s a brief summary on his career, courtesy of the Lions’ website:
2017: Placed on the Reserve/Injured list at the beginning of the season.
Returned to the Lions offensive line in Week 10 vs. Cleveland (11/12), playing the right guard position and contributing to an offense that scored three passing touchdowns while averaging 5.5 yards per carry on the ground.
2016: Saw time on offense and special teams in Week 2 vs. Tennessee (9/18).
Continued to contribute on both offense and special teams in Week 5 vs. Philadelphia (10/9), earning his first career start as a sixth offensive lineman on offense.
Played on both offense and special teams in Week 6 vs. Los Angeles (10/16).
Inactive in Weeks 7-8.
Filled in for OT Riley Reiff (illness) and played every offensive snap at right tackle in Week 9 at Minnesota (11/6). Helped bolster an offensive line that blocked for QB Matthew Stafford as he threw for 219 yards and two scores, including the game-winning touchdown pass to WR Golden Tate that gave Detroit a 22-16 overtime victory.
Made his third start of the season at right tackle in Week 17 vs. Green Bay (1/1). Led the way for RB Zach Zenner to rush 20 times for 69 yards and a touchdown in defeat.
2015: Debuted in his first career NFL game in Week 1 at San Diego (9/13) before being inactive for the remainder of the season.
Stay tuned for updates on the specific compensation the Panthers are sending the Lions.
