The Carolina Panthers made a few roster moves this morning before practice started. Defensive tackle Ashaad Mabry was waived and has been replaced by defensive end Sterling Bailey. Also, wide receiver Fred Ross passed his physical and was removed from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

Panthers have signed DE Sterling Bailey. UDFA w Colts out of Georgia in 2016. Was at the Panthers rookie camp this year.— Joe Person (@josephperson) August 7, 2018
As you can see from Person’s tweet, Bailey was an undrafted free agent with the Colts in 2016 and attended the Panthers’ rookie camp earlier this year. It’s unlikely that he’ll make the final 53-man roster but he could be a candidate for the practice squad if Ron Rivera likes what he sees out of him over the next few weeks.
Ross is in a tough spot with a crowded wide recevier room that’s much better than it has been in the past, but he should get plenty of run in the four preseason games to see if he can compete for a spot on the practice squad.
Stay tuned for more updates as they come in.
