Charles Johnson is retiring today as a Carolina Panther

One of the Panthers’ all-time greats is officially calling it a career.

Charles Johnson is retiring today, just a few months after being released by the Carolina Panthers. In 11 years with this franchise, Johnson made his mark as one of the best players in the Carolinas both on and off the field.

The departure of Peppers during free agency left a huge hole in more than just the Panther’s defensive line, as the Carolina native was a fan favorite as much for his Carolina history as for his play-making abilities. Johnson stepped up and delivered in his new role with an ethos that the Panther’s have tried to exemplify since their inception by displaying humility, diligence, and perseverance. In a phrase, he kept pounding.
