The Carolina Panthers made a roster move today in an effort to bolster their depth in the secondary by signing cornerback Alex Carter, according to Max Henson. To make room for Carter, safety Damian Parms was placed on injured reserve.
More help in the secondary as the Panthers have signed Alex Carter. Can play corner and safety. He just joined the team at practice.

Carter was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He has bounced around the league in the years since, spending time with New England, Seattle and Chicago before landing in Carolina today. He has appeared in one NFL game in his career and hasn’t recorded any statistics. He played college football at Stanford.
Carter was converted to safety during the 2017 offseason, so his versatility is probably what enticed the Panthers to take a look at him as a potential roster option.
Parms suffered a shoulder injury in the Panthers preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills, and while he probably was a long shot to make the 53-man roster it makes sense to find a replacement for him now to have depth during the final three preseason games. Plus, you never know—Carter could end up being a diamond in the rough.
