NFL free agency: Carolina Panthers tender exclusive rights free agents for 2018 season

New, comments

The Panthers are retaining some of their roster depth for the 2018 season.

The Carolina Panthers announced today that they have tendered four exclusive rights free agents for the 2018 season, according to a tweet from Jourdan Rodrigue.

These are solid additions to the depth chart for the Panthers that don’t cost a lot of money or valuable draft picks to acquire.

Michael Palardy proved to be a valuable asset last season after beating out veteran Andy Lee for the punter job, Tyler Larsen showed that he can step in for veteran center Ryan Kalil and provide continuity on the offensive line when needed, and Damiere Byrd showed promise with 10 receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns in eight games last season while also coming back from injured reserve after suffering a broken arm. Bringing Byrd back for 2018 shows that the team believes he can be a deep-threat wide receiver to open up the offense for quarterback Cam Newton.

Chris Manhertz played mostly special teams in 2017, but appeared in all 16 games for Carolina. He was placed on injured reserve on January 2 after suffering an ankle injury in the regular season finale.

Drew Iddings was added to the roster during training camp and has not appeared in a regular season game for the Panthers.
