It should be pretty clear that the Panthers need some help at cornerback. After trading starting corner Daryl Worley straight up for wide reciever Torrey Smith, they appeared to have an answer in Bashaud Breeland. That bottomed out, after he head scratchingly failed his physical.
Well, it looks like help (or some form of it), is on the way.
In light of Bashaud Breeland failed physical, Panthers have had conversations w/ CB LaDarius Gunter, whom they did not tender as an RFA last wk.

In addition to Gunter, Panthers also expected to explore the remaining free agent CBs on the market.

Right now, James Bradberry is the number one corner while Captain Munnerlyn is basically the top candidate for the other outside spot. They have a few more options at nickel in Cole Luke and Corn Elder, but on the outside they lack depth aside from Kevon Seymour, who managed to wrestle snaps away from Worley last season.
LaDarius Gunter was somebody they claimed off waivers last season, but didn’t see much time on defense since it happened during the season. Gunter had 54 tackles and 12 pass deflections in 15 starts for the Packers in 2016, but hasn’t seen the field much since.
This is the period of free agency where teams will “talk” but signings may not happen right away. They take time. Amazingly still, the safety market has been surprisingly quiet as well. Look for the Panthers to start visiting with more players to see who they can get with limited cap space.
And as always, keep an eye on those comp picks!
