According to a tweet from Vinny Dias, the Carolina Panthers could be interested in signing soon-to-be free agent cornerback Bashaud Breeland.

Breeland is a 26-year old cornerback who has played all four of his NFL seasons with Washington, where he has logged eight career interceptions (one touchdown) and seven career forced fumbles in 60 games.

According to a report from JP Finlay at NBC Sports, Breeland will test the free agency market with more than just money on his mind.

“I’m just patiently waiting to see whether that’s still with [Washington] or with a new family,” Breeland said. “I understand the business. There’s no hard feelings. I just want to play ball.”

During his tenure with Washington, Breeland has earned about $3.3 million. His payday in free agency could be much more, though he explained during an honest locker room conversation that his next deal will be about more than cash.

”It’s not about the money, it’s about the respect level,” Breeland said. “Me playing, me leaving, it’s about starting to become something that I wanted to be. My vision when I stepped into this league was becoming a dominant corner in this league, someone my team can depend on. I feel like that time is right around the corner.”

The Panthers could be buyers in the free agent market for a cornerback after trading Daryl Worley to the Eagles for wide receiver Torrey Smith on Friday. If money truly isn’t his top priority, the Panthers could be an attractive landing spot for Breeland, who played college football at Clemson and grew up in Allendale, SC.

What do you think about this rumor, Panthers fans? Do you think Breeland would be a good fit with Carolina’s defense? Would you like to see them make him an offer? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
