It was an ugly loss which I lay mostly at the feet of quarterback Cam Newton and the offense. Newton was awful throwing the ball resulting in a 34 QBR. No need for further detail on that. In spite of Newton’s sad performance there were a couple notable performances on the offensive line.

WR Devin Funchess

Funchess caught two balls for 48 yards and his eighth touchdown of the season.

LG Andrew Norwell

From PFF Elite: Left guard Andrew Norwell’s overall grade of 86.4 was the third-highest mark for a guard in Week 17. It was the third straight game he didn’t allow a pressure. He didn’t allow a quarterback hit or sack this season.

Refocused: Atlanta Falcons 22, Carolina Panthers 10 | NFL Analysis | Pro Football Focus

G ANDREW NORWELL, 86.2 OVERALL GRADE

One of the best players of the season for the Carolina Panthers, left guard Andrew Norwell had another fine outing against the Falcons and was one of the few Panthers linemen to do so. Norwell didn’t allow any pressures across 40 pass-blocking snaps, while most of the pressure on Newton came from the right side of the Panthers’ offensive line.

LB Luke Kuechly

PFF Elite: 87.3 OVERALL GRADE

It was just another day at the office for Kuechly, who knifed around blockers to finish with five run stops on only 24 run snaps, good for a run-stop percentage of 20.8 percent that ranks second in the NFL this week. He also finished with a clean-up sack and a pressure, though he was caught out of position a few times in coverage.

DT Kawann Short

PFF Elite: 85.7 OVERALL GRADE

Short didn’t knock down the quarterback, but he had five hurries and a batted pass to go with three stops in the run game. He consistently pushed blockers back into quarterback Matt Ryan’s lap, forcing more difficult throws, and his line-of-scrimmage disruption helped limit Atlanta’s ball carriers to just 2.0 yards per carry.

LB Thomas Davis

Davis logged 10 tackles in his return to the lineup.

So those are your choices.
