The Carolina Panthers roll into the first game of the season against the San Francisco 49ers with relatively few injuries on the first injury report of 2017. Cam Newton was a full participant in practice and is expected to start for the Panthers on Sunday. Rookie wide receiver Curtis Samuel was also a full participant.

While it’s great news that the team somehow managed to navigate the preseason gauntlet with only nicks and bruises they still saw key contributors knocked out of contention before the games ever started.
Carolina lost rookie CB Corn Elder to IR after failing to practice due to a fractured patella. Other IR candidates made official this week were WR Brenton Bersin, OL Gino Gradkowski, S L.J. McCray and OL Chris Scott. None are considered huge losses, however the absence of a competent backup safety is cause for concern should an aging Mike Adams, or the human turnover machine Kurt Coleman go down during the season.
