Panthers roster cuts: Alex Armah cut, Corn Elder placed on injured reserve

The Panthers now have 53 players on their active roster.

The Panthers have made their corresponding moves to get the roster back to 53 players after picking up quarterback Brad Kaaya and safety Demetrious Cox off the waiver wire this afternoon.

Fullback Alex Armah has been waived, and cornerback Corn Elder has been placed on injured reserve.

The move to cut Armah is surprising as it leaves the Panthers without a fullback on the roster for the first time in quite a while. It’s possible they could try to bring Armah back at a later date when they finally make a decision on which placekicker to keep on the roster, but for now they’ll go without one. There’s also the chance Armah could be placed on the practice squad since the Panthers have one spot open.

Corn Elder was placed on injured reserve after getting hurt early in training camp. He never recovered from his injury well enough to get any action in the preseason, so the Panthers are stashing him on IR for the year and will bring him back again next year. Because he was not on the 53-man roster long enough (he had to be on the 53-man roster at 4:01 p.m. ET today), he is not eligible to come back from IR this season.

Until we find out which kicker wins the roster spot between Graham Gano and Harrison Butker, the Panthers appear to be done with roster moves for the time being.

As always, stay tuned to CSR for updates as we’ll have them when they are available.
