Safety help is on the way. The Panthers have claimed safety Demetrious Cox from the Bengals.
Cox was an undrafted free agent this past draft, and didn’t make it for the Bengals. He was widely considered a second day pick prior to the 2016 season but a down year coupled with an assault charge hurt his stock. The Panthers are dangerously thin at safety, so it seems like they are going to take a chance on whoever they can as viable safety depth. Cox is athletic but seems to lack the mental aspect of the game.
He joins Colin Jones as the only two back up safeties for the team, as they continue to delve the free agent market. I would not be shocked to see the team go for a more veteran guy, but there’s only a few days til the regular season begins. Stay tuned for updates here on CSR.
