Every day the Panthers practice we will bring you a nice recap of the action. Normally Erik does this but it’s Friday, so it’s my job.
Injuries and Absences
- Ryan Kalil and Charles Johnson got the day off. Veteran days.
- Kawann Short-Hamstring/lower back tightness
- Fred Ross out again after being carted off yesterday
- Curtis Samuel-hamstring
- Corn Elder-Patella
- Jared Norris
- Toby Johnson
- Zach Sanchez
- Scott Simonson
- Julius Peppers (presumed vet day)
We will update as we find out what’s bugging these guys, though none of them appear to have season enders aside from maybe Elder. Matt Kalil also is dressed for practice tonight.
Notes
- Cam Newton still did not throw. Like I said before though, no reason to push the guy into throwing with four weeks until week one.
- Kelvin Benjamin was held out of team drills but no real reason given yet.
- Matt Kalil did take the pads off at one point and ended up working with injured players. Per Joe Person, Kalil feels better and should be good to go on Sunday.
- McCaffery did CMC things and juked Mike Adams on a screen play.
- Despite all the hype about Christian McCaffery’s speed, he ran in a two yard TD during the scrimmage.

- Both the kickers ended field goal drills with matching 50+ yard field goals.
- Cam started a wave in the stands and didn’t realize what he was getting in to.

- Dean Marlowe went down and had many Panthers huddled around him. Not sure what happened there just yet. Marlowe is the primary back up at safety.
- Despite not throwing for four days, Rivera said Newton’s had a “good week”.
- Per David Newton, Samuel appears to be close to making a return.
There wasn’t a whole lot of in-practice coverage so the recap is admittedly a bit light. Hope you all enjoyed Fan Fest! Stay tuned for more Panthers coverage!
