Welcome to a new Tampa Bay tradtion.

Welcome, Panthers fans, to the first annual Cinco Aguayo. Today is a holiday that we have been gifted by our dear friends and door mats to the south, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the sad and ancient tongue of Tampa, Cinco Aguayo translates roughly to “the first day we can control our laughter enough to point and laugh harder after seeing the Bucs cut the kicker for whom they traded up in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.” With such a complicated language behind their culture it is easy to understand why there are so many mistakes made by the teams they field each week.

This holiday is not meant to throw shade at Roberto Aguayo, the kicker of the hour, as it is in no way his fault the Bucs gave up a third and a fourth round pick last year to try to insure the accuracy of all of those extra points they don’t get the opportunity to kick. In fact, we here at Cat Scratch Reader would like to take this time to thank Mr. Aguayo for all of last year’s happy memories and wish him luck with which ever team he signs with after the Bears implode.

All jokes aside, this appears to be the rare front office move by any NFL team that was precipitated by forward thinking and the possible understanding of a sunk cost. Here’s to hoping that this was a momentary lapse in misjudgment by the Tampa Bay leadership and not a landmark moment heralding staid and principled management for years to come.

Happy Cinco Aguayo, y’all!
