With 40 days left until football kicks off, let’s look at the Panthers’ #40, FB Alex Armah.
Bio
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 253 lbs
Age: 23
College: West Georgia
Position: DE,LB,TE,HB.....FB?
Experience: Rookie
Career
Alex Armah played at West Georgia, where until 2017 no previous NFL players have emerged. Despite his extensive experience, Carolina has tabbed Armah as a FB. Early indications were that Alex excels as a lead blocker and could provide a much needed running lane for rookie prospect Christian McCaffrey and veteran Jonathan Stewart. Before his departure, Dave Gettleman’s propensity for ‘Hog Mollies’ was well documented. Alex is just another cog in the massive machine being built in Carolina.
In an interview with ESPN, Offensive Coordinator for West Georgia recalls on specific play involving Armah:
“We have a route run off the safety into boundary where we give the tight end the option to run a post or a corner route based on leverage of the safety,’’ Greg said. “Man, he got a good release off the line and crossed the safety over and dropped him on his feet.
This is the kind of thing Carolina scouts look for and is it happens, Panthers’ scout Jeff Beathard fought to have the kid looked at prior to the draft.
