Career
Ben Boulware has all the tools to become a fan favorite in Carolina and let’s face it, there’s no better place to be the home town hero. Boulware went undrafted out of Clemson, or as he puts it he was the Panthers’ ‘Eighth round pick.’ Given his pick of teams calling after the draft Boulware chose Carolina on the strength of their existing roster. Where a lot of players would be looking for a gap to fill, Ben saw the opportunity to learn behind two of the best LBs in the league and he jumped at it. Two hours from home, Boulware is as big a Panthers fan as the rest of us. You could call this an ideal situation but one where the rookie understands he’ll have to pull his weight and put in the time.
The now well known story of Boulware sleeping in his car on his first day to make certain he wasn’t late, is a perfect example of the kid’s desire and dedication. Ben told the Charlotte Observer’s Jourdan Rodrigue:
Obviously I’m going to try to make the team...but I will play special teams, I’ll be the tackling dummy, whatever it is. I’m just trying to make the 53-man.
Boulware has performed big when it counts. He returned an interception for a TD against Oklahoma in the Russel Athletic Bowl and scored a team-high 116 tackles, 11.5 TFL and four sacks as a senior on the National Champion Clemson Tigers team.
Boulware is best known for his viral suplex video against Syracuse, seen below:
