Carolina Panthers name Marty Hurney interim General Manager, per reports

A familiar face will run the team for the 2017 season.

Welp.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Carolina Panthers are expected to name Marty Hurney the interim General Manager to replace recently fired GM Dave Gettleman. Hurney is expected to run the day-to-day operations of the team through the 2017 season while owner Jerry Richardson decides on a permanent replacement.

Here’s Rapoport with the confirmation, in case you think I’m making this up:

Oh, and if you need more confirmation: Panthers.com is reporting it too.

UPDATE: According to Joe Person, Hurney will also help Richardson find a permanent General Manager:

I know what you’re thinking right now: THIS IS A DISASTER WTF?!

Allow me to be the calming voice you need - this isn’t as bad as it sounds. Yes, Hurney was not a great GM when he was here. Yes it looks weird seeing the guy who Gettleman replaced being the one to replace Gettleman. Yes we probably look like a clown show to the rest of the NFL right now. I can’t deny those things. But what I can deny is that the world is coming to an end. He’s the interim GM. Jerry Richardson needs someone he knows to watch the fort for a little while until he can find someone more permanent. Everything will be okay.

Now, if Richardson decides to remove that interim label in a few months, then we can set up a support group. Until then, let’s just sit back and see how it plays out, okay?

On the bright side, at least we know Greg Olsen and Thomas Davis are about to get paid, right?

What do you think, Panthers fans? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments!
