According to a tweet from NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, Jerry Richardson is meeting with Marty Hurney to discuss being the interim GM of the Carolina Panthers following Dave Gettleman’s sudden departure yesterday.
#Panthers owner Jerry Richardson and Marty Hurney meeting today, league source said. If all goes well, he's expected to be named interim GM.

Before you freak out, keep in mind the report says interim GM, as in temporary. It’s believed that Hurney would only be in charge of the front office for the 2017 season while Richardson takes his time to find a suitable replacement for Gettleman.
Details still to be worked out, but plan would be for Hurney to run team for 2017. Team would use coming months to vet full-time candidates.

Of course, that doesn’t eliminate the possibility that Richardson could just remove the interim label from Hurney’s title later down the road, but for now let’s just focus on the word interim and continue to believe that won’t happen.
