Panthers 2017 Season Opener Countdown: 52 Days to Go

We continue our Carolina Panthers roster countdown with linebacker Jared Norris.

NFL: Preseason-Carolina Panthers at Tennessee Titans Joshua Lindsey-USA TODAY Sports

52 days until the NFL regular season opener guys! Let’s take a look at 2016 undrafted free agent Jared Norris!

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 238 lbs

Age: 23

Experience: 2 years

College: Utah

Norris came to Carolina as a priority free agent signing following the 2016 NFL Draft. Norris ended up getting a 53 man roster spot alongside Jeremy Cash despite a loaded group at linebacker. He ended up playing in 14 games as a special teamer, and logging 6 tackles (tying for 3rd most on the team). Norris was a surprise last year. The Panthers had quite a few good linebackers and I thought they would have kept the extra roster spots elsewhere. But they ended up keeping David Mayo, Cash, and Norris behind the top four.

But according to Norris’ draft profile, he's a high character guy with great leadership qualities. On top of that, he possesses enough athleticism to do what he does as a linebacker. The Panthers always like to keep the linebacking group deep, so it makes sense. Having said that, every season is going to be a battle for the back end, and 2017 will be no different. The Panthers acquired Ben Boulware following this year's draft, and the battle between him, Norris, and Cash will be fun to watch.

What are your thoughts, Panthers fans?
