91 days to go until Panthers football. Ryan Delaire’s jersey has the number 91 on it. Coincidentally enough, we’re going to give a quick profile on Ryan Delaire.

Age: 25

Height: 6’ 4”

Weight: 265 lbs

College: Towson

Experience: 3rd season

Ryan Delaire signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going undrafted in 2015. He was unable to make the final roster and found himself on the Washington Redskins practice squad to start the 2015 regular season.

He didn’t stay there for long. The Panthers signed the DE to their active roster on September 30th. That Sunday, Delaire started his professional career with a bang. In his first career start, Delaire amassed 2 sacks and 5 tackles in the Panthers 37 - 23 victory over the team that cut Delaire just one month prior. The Panthers seemingly found a major diamond in the rough.

Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case so far. Delaire followed that 2 sack performance with 1.5 sacks in his next 14 career games. In the 2016 season, Delaire had more trips to IR (2) than he had sacks (1). This came after a preseason in which Delaire found himself woefully out of position on multiple occasions.

The Panthers spent the 2017 offseason bolstering their front line. The Panthers reacquired former Panther great Julius Peppers and used a 3rd round pick on DE Daeshon Hall. Those two will join Charles Johnson and the newly re-signed Mario Addison in the defensive end rotation. That only leaves one spot for guys like Delaire, Wes Horton, Larry Webster, and others.

Delaire’s spot on the roster is anything but assured. He’ll be a player to watch in camp and in the preseason, as his performance in those settings will be the deciding factor on whether or not he finds himself in the blue and black next season.
