Career
Chris Scott is a guard. That is about as notable as Scott gets I’m afraid. Now, not to be down on the man or anything, he has been a serviceable fill in when needed, and he has been needed quite a bit in the last four years here in Carolina. While a majority of his time has been spent doing spot duty, he does have a bit of starting experience, including four starts last year as the injury bug took its toll on the offensive line. He isn’t flashy, and he isn’t someone you want to have starting on your OL for much of the season, but like any backup, he does a decent job when called upon. Not much more you can ask from him there.
It is this versatility and ability to fill in when needed that earned Scott a one-year contract extension this past March, ensuring that his veteran presence continues to assist the Panthers, as injuries will happen and guys will get gassed out there, especially in the hot, early part of the season. Keeping a guy like Scott around who is familiar with the team and understands the protections being called, as well as having a rapport with the rest of the offense, is more important than anything else. He should be able to make the cut for the regular season roster, but hopefully we won’t have to see him on the field too often.
