Why I'm a fan of the Carolina Panthers

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

I guess you could call me a first generation Panthers fan. Unlike people older than me, like my dad, who grew up a Redskins fan and converted, the Panthers were my first love. In any sport.

I went to my first Panthers game in 2000 at the Georgia Dome with my parents when I was 6 years old. From that point on, it became nearly an obsession. I even began playing football because I was inspired by players like Julius Peppers, Steve Smith, Jake Delhomme, and Brad Hoover. I couldn't stop watching the Panthers even as they lost 15 straight in 2001.

And then 2003 happened. Over the years, I defended this team through good and bad. Heard the kids who were fans of the "Patriots" or "Steelers" or "Packers" brag abut the successes of their teams. But I was a fan of what I believe to be the greatest organization in the NFL. I'm a fan of the Carolina Panthers because they were my first true sports love and I will always Keep Pounding.
