Panthers Sign DT Kawann Short to 5 Year Deal

What a great way to start your Monday Carolina Panthers fans.

Well how about this little Easter egg. This morning, the Panthers announced via Twitter that the team had signed highly valued defensive tackle Kawann Short. After weeks of wondering when Short would actually sign his franchise tag (and probably a few unpleasant reminders of the Josh Norman debacle), Dave Gettleman cranked out the extension Short was looking for all along.

Jourdan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer confirmed some details on the numbers, confirming that it is a 5 year $80 million deal. So Short will be looking at a roughly $16 mil a year pay check. The Panthers really stuck to their guns with this one, locking in their best pass rushing tackle for the next five years. We’ve all been told about how much Dave Gettleman values his hog mollies and pass rushers, but this deal really proved it. Between a happy Kawann Short, Star Lotulelei on his 5th year option, and Vernon Butler on his second year in the league, the Panthers rotation looks to be stacked this year and for the future.

What do you think of this, Panthers fans?
