My pick for the Panthers at #8 in the SBN mock draft is...

With the top defenders off the board I turned to helping the offense.

This should be no surprise if you have read my previous posts on this topic:

OJ Howard, TE, Alabama

Analysis: There’s nothing at all wrong with Howard. His draft range is in this area and he should adjust to the NFL effortlessly. I’m just not sure he’s the right fit in Carolina. Howard would be utilized on routes similar to Olsen and Funchess, and might not get much opportunity. The Panthers need a receiver in this draft, but one with speed who can open the field — like John Ross of Washington — could be a better fit.

While I’m not disagreeing with Kadar on the need for some speed at WR that can be had later in the draft as well. This draft is deep at speedy WRs and RBs. While there are 3 or 4 TE’s at the top it’s not as deep of a draft class and Howard is a unique player at the position.

Be sure to click through to Mocking the Draft to grade the pick. You can bash the pick here or there too :)

The poll I’m going to put here is for you to choose Howard or one of Dan’s Top 5 remaining players.

Dan's top five players remaining

2. Jonathan Allen, DL, Alabama

7. Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State

8. Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU

9. Reuben Foster, MLB, Alabama

10. Mike Williams, WR, Clemson

Boy Gettleman is going to have a tough selection on his hands. What if Jonathan Allen really is there? Would he select another DL to back-up DTs Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short? Same with Fournette. He won’t start over Jonathan Stewart as a rookie. He could return kick offs and serve in a platoon similar to the days of Double Trouble.
