As usual we’ll begin by examining last weeks lineup for what worked and what didn’t. Last minute changes due to Leonard Fournette’s absence actually led to this being my second best lineup in play Sunday. The other one making a tidy profit so, yay DFS. Anyway, here we go:

TOTAL FANTASY POINTS: 136.36 |
As we can see, all went well until I once again got bit by the Jonathan Stewart bug. I guess me and Shula have something in common, we both kept going to a well that has obviously run dry. Gurley had a good game replacing Fournette and I even struck on a hunch that Jack Doyle would have a good outing. Despite not scoring, Funchess put up decent numbers and the Eagles defense held its own. Now on to week 10.
We’re gonna try something different this week. I’m going to offer you my gut feeling and an altered roster to take advantage of safe options at risky positions.
Quarterback
Eli Manning/Jared Goff
You’re thinking ‘What?!? Eli, isn’t he getting benched for a rookie?’ First off, no. I don’t see a situatino where Eli gets benched on this team unless he’s injured. The problem isn’t at quarterback, it’s in the locker room with most of the offense. Anyway, shake ups around McAdoo’s hold on the team, a weak opponent and the return of Sterling Shepard are a recipe for a surprise game from Manning. At this price I’ll take the risk.
If you’re feeling averse to putting your money on Jr. Manning, Jared Goff is an excellent choice at this spot that will only require a little tweaking down the line to make this roster work. He put up 51 against New York last week and has a chance against Houston to take advantage of yet another floundering defense.
Running Back
Matt Forte
The backfield in New York can make plenty of people nervous but the Jets’ dominance over the Buffalo Bills revealed a strong weapon in Matt Forte who has a favorable match up on Sunday.
Running Back
Christian McCaffrey
McCaffrey took huge strides against the Falcons and notched his second TD of the season. With reception numbers only matched by Jarvis Landry and Antonio Brown, the entire offense is being funneled through CMC right now. Prime time is the right time for a player on the brink of greatness to break out. If Carolina is going to win this important match up, McCaffrey is going to be a big part of that.
Wide Receiver
Sterling Shepard/Marvin Jones
Since I’m hoping for a big Eli day it stands to reason the best receiver he has left should have a number of targets. This is obviously risky because SF hasn’t allowed a receiver over 70 yards in four games but like I said, this is a calculated risk. For the more Rivera inclined amongst us......
Marvin Jones has had a string of up games with three TDs in three weeks. The Browns defense can be better than many realize but Matthew Stafford changes the rules with his ability to find receivers downfield. I like Jones in this one.
Wide Receiver
Golden Tate
Generally I don’t stack receivers from the same team, so if you go the Marvin Jones route you may want to examine this position. However, with Cleveland focused on the number 1 spot. Tate is averaging just under 100 yards in his last three games and the Browns rank 17th on defense.
Wide Receiver
Robert Woods
Everyone take a moment.....Jared Goff, is not a bust. Let that sink in. In fact, he’s one of the top performing quarterbacks in the league right now. Bizarre right? Anyway, if the Rams are going to continue their unlikely rise to the top, Woods is going to continue to benefit from an offensive scheme lets him see high fantasy value each and every week. LA faces Houston who have more than a few holes on defense.
Tight End
Cameron Brate
The tight end situation in Tampa Bay is not one I’ve been willing to touch for awhile but this Sunday is a rare exception. Jameis Winston is out with injury. We know from experience that backup quarterbacks like Tight Ends as a safety valve. With Mike Evans serving a one game suspension and the history between Fitzpatrick and Brate all the story lines are there for a good match up. OJ Howard has yet to produce so I’m rolling with Brate in week 10.
FLEX
Todd Gurley II/Jerrick McKinnon
Gurley has hadthe kind of resurgence that inspires the comeback award. The Rams have had the best luck this season with players that previously written off by the league. Gurley is one of the top running back options right now against one of the worst run defenses. Gurley currently has 10 TDs in his last 8 games.
The cheaper option comes with high upside and the ability to roll with Goff at QB. McKinnon is underrated in Minnesota but that’s changing very week. Washington has been fairly stout against the run but McKinnon offers the versatility as a pass catcher to circumvent the rush and pick up yards after the catch. Jordan Howard is also a viable play at this position.
Defense/Special Teams
Da Bears. If you don’t know by now, Chicago may not have an offense to speak of but their D is strong. Brett Hundley is gonna have a hard day against a team holding opposing quarterbacks to marginal gains at best.
