He'll have to go through the concussion protocol which means he miss at least a few more practices, if not more.
We didn't know about it until today because it happened at the very end of practice.
"The hard thing about it is it happened at the very end of practice," Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. "So as they’re trying to evaluate guys, Kony went upstairs, came in and they talked to him. They decided that they needed to put him in the protocol to make sure he’s OK."
So it sounds more precautionary than anything. It was a helmet to helmet hit with another player.
Jonathan Jones of The Charlotte Observer reported Sunday that Ealy is mired in the league's concussion protocol, according to Panthers coach Ron Rivera. The defender absorbed a helmet-to-helmet hit during Saturday's practice.
The Panthers don't need to rush Ealy back provided he gets some work in the preseason in a couple weeks. Instead the Panthers can give added reps to the players fighting for the back-up spot: Ryan Delaire, Wes Horton, Rakim Cox, Mario Addison and Arthur Miley.
Though I do like our depth at the position we do need him back at 100% for week 1. I want to see what he can do as a full time starter.
